In addition to browsing through Galena’s 19th-century downtown with more than 100 storefronts, here are some other ways to enjoy our beautiful area:
|

8850 North Menominee Road
East Dubuque, IL 61025
563.543.8936
Berning Acres is a family-owned dairy farm located in Menominee, Illinois (halfway between East Dubuque & Galena).
They milk 400 cows, mostly Holsteins (the black and white ones!) and run about 850 acres.
They are passionate about what they do, and they love educating others about what farming looks like today. Their hope is that you’ll visit their farm and leave with some great knowledge about agriculture, farm animals and farm life (and a deeper appreciation for that wholesome nutritious glass of milk you enjoy each day!)
Berning Acres is offering three great ways for everyone to enjoy their farm:
Farm Camp – for kids ages 7 to 12
Farm Tours – for the whole family
Night at the Farm – for adults, pick your favorite!
Cows, Beers and Cheese Curds
or
Cows, Wine and Charcuterie

11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Galena Grant Park Pavilion
625 Park Avenue
Galena, IL 61036
The historic author of classic novels will be brought to life in the Grant Park Pavilion during a performance entitled, “Mary Shelley: The Intricate Riddle of Life.” Tickets include a picnic lunch from Galena Bakehouse.
Mary Shelley was the daughter of the social revolutionaries William Godwin and Mary Wollstonecraft, wife of romantic poet Percy Shelley, and mother of Frankenstein and his monster. But beneath the sweeping romantic tale of love unbound by societal convention and a life of travel, is the truth; abandoned, disowned, betrayed, wounded by the deaths of her husband and children, and besieged by creditors.
The performance will call on Mary Shelley in the spring of 1848. She is financially secure at last, her most recent book has been well received, and her only living son is on the verge of marriage.
Galena LitFest is sponsored by the Galena Public Library, the Friends of the Galena Public Library, and private donors.
