Beginners Wood Carving Class - Humming Bird

Experience the joy of wood carving in this beginner-friendly class!


Marie McDonough's teaching method is about taking your time, having fun and not expecting perfection. You will be amazed at your finished hummingbird!


You will be carving in Butternut wood which has a beautiful grain and only a little harder wood than Basswood.


You will be using a Dremel rotary tool with a sanding drum and will be provided a rough out and use an 8-step process to help you complete the carving.


Finish up with oiling your hummingbird to bring out the color and wood grain.


Class size is limited.

All ticket holders must check in between 11:00 AM -1:00 PM at Galena Cellars at 111 North Main Street to get your punch card.

This heartwarming and haunting play, written by Ted Williams and Robyn Davis, is set in the early Galena lead mining period and details the life of Theodore Jones, a Welsh miner and his family. Written in a Welsh folkloric style, Will-O'-the-Wisp is filled with history, humor, romance, superstition, mystery, and, of course, a bit of whiskey.

Join us throughout 2024 as JDCF programs celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge. 


Begin the exploration by attending the 40th Annual Bald Eagle Watch.


It is sponsored by the Savanna District of the Refuge, which runs from Dubuque, IA, to Rock Island, IL, and borders Jo Daviess County.


Programs at Lock #13 in Fulton, IL and Clinton Community College in Clinton, IA, will feature lectures, videos, stories and live birds of prey.

Grant's Home Front Reenactment & Encampment

Learn about life in the 1860s through the Encampment and Civil War Battle. 


Over 3,000 people visited this event last year!


Shop the Sanitary Fair (a Civil War Ladies Bazaar supporting our troops) with beautiful handmade items. 


Battles each day: Saturday at 11:30 am, Sunday at 1:30 pm


This is a family friendly event with the chance to interact with reenactors portraying both military and civilians in the 1860's during the war.


Meet General Grant and his staff, see a medical demonstration, and have your child "drill" with the troops!
